Your treatment plan will consist of one or several of the following, depending on your individual needs.
Clinical Nutrition
Clinical nutrition examines the relationship between diet and health and is often one of the first determinants of health that is examined during a naturopathic intake. During a consultation with a naturopathic doctor, patients’ diets are always evaluated, and changes are gradually implemented based on their specific needs. Special diets, food elimination, simple diet changes, variations in dietary habits or the use of nutritional supplements may be recommended.
Botanical Medicine (Herbalism)
The use of plants for healing dates back to the beginning of civilization and is the foundation of modern pharmacology. Herbs are used in many forms – teas, tinctures or capsules – for their profound healing effects and nutritional value and may be included in your personalized treatment plan.
Homeopathic Medicine
Homeopathic remedies are minute dilutions of plant, animal and mineral substances designed to stimulate the body’s “vital force” and strengthen its innate ability to heal. The laws of physics state that everything on this planet, including you and I, are made up of energy, not matter, having our own unique vibrations or frequencies. Homeopathic medicines can change our state of health by changing our vibrational state.
Traditional Chinese Medicine / Acupuncture
Based on balancing the flow of Chi (energy) through meridian pathways under the skin, Oriental medicine includes the use of Oriental herbs, acupuncture and cupping to regulate and release Chi in order to bring the body into balance.
Acupuncture is also very effectively used in musculoskeletal disorders or injuries, to relieve muscle tension or soreness and joint pain, eliminate trigger points and to improve recovery from injury.
Prevention and Lifestyle Counselling
Naturopathic doctors address all aspects of a person’s life, including the health impact of stress and life events, and how the individual responds to them. Naturopaths help patients achieve effective stress management, adequate quality sleep, healthy emotional balance, sufficient appropriate exercise, and cessation of harmful habits such as smoking and fast food.
IV Therapies
Often, due to poor diet or problems absorbing nutrients, less than optimal concentrations of these nutrients end up in the blood. Less than optimal health is the outcome. IV therapy is an excellent delivery method for vitamins, minerals and other substances, in amounts specific to your individual needs or deficiencies. The nutrients are delivered directly into the bloodstream independent from digestive powers. Therapeutic levels of specific nutrients, which are impossible to attain through oral supplementation, are immediately achieved and therefore better results are felt faster.
Biopuncture
Biopuncture is a relatively new injection technique developed by a Belgian physician that results in often permanent relief from musculoskeletal pain (e.g. back pain, sciatica), sports injuries, headaches, allergies, hormonal imbalances and other disorders. The treatment involves the delivery of natural substances using a very small needle into the skin, muscles, or ligaments. The small doses stimulate the natural healing process. NSAIDS or corticosteroid injections suppress ligament or tendon repair and healing and provide only temporary relief due to their anti-inflammatory effects. Using biopuncture, relief may be achieved in 1 session (for acute symptoms) or may require up to 8 sessions for more chronic conditions. Improvement in symptoms is often seen after the first treatment.
